Mini-Me Parent/Child Team

Charity Chess Tournament

Eight pairs of parent/child teams participated in this year's Mini-Me tournament. With most parents jumping into competitive chess for the very first time, it was highly entertaining to watch how they handled being thrust into the spotlight and the pressure of the clock.

Some kept their child partners in deep suspense and agony as they tried to figure out, with mixed success, elementary checkmates and endgame techniques over the board for the first time!

At the end of the day it was team "The Two Mighty Ks" with Leo and Mikhail Koganov who won all of their matches to win clear first.

"Dumb and Dumber" with Max and David Lu came in clear second, and "Babajanyan" with Andre and Edward Babajanyan, and "Check & Checkmate" with Mateusz and Tadeusz Zalewski sharing 3rd place.

Together these teams chose some very worthwhile causes to donate their winnings to. This year's donations went to Caring with Grace, the Fistula Foundation and the St. Jude Children Research Hospital. A total of $240 was donated! Thank you to everyone that came out to play and for your donations, and a special shout out to all of the tournament new-comers that braved jumping in the ring for a good cause.
